CASSANDRA BISHOP, Celebration of Culture - Moko Kauae (PEOPLE 2023)

I had the privilege of watching 3 of my partners cousins receive their moko kauae. A Moko Kuaae for those don’t know is a cultural facial tattoo on the lips and chin that only Māori Women (NZ First Nation people)can get and represents a woman's whānau (family), recognising her whakapapa (ancestral line) while also embracing their cultural traditions.
