The endangered cider gum serves as a significant part of Tasmania's natural history. Regrettably, only a limited number of these trees remain, while the skeletal remains exhibit generational tapping scars that reflect the historical collection of the sugary sap that once coursed through them. The fermented drink, made by the Palawa People, was known as Wayalinah.
