Nasain Baartz, "In the Spring, Becomes..." (PLACES 2024)

An ode to my Grandmother, Muriel, who loved and grew roses. Taking a weekend walk through my neighbourhood in Brisbane, Qld, I came across this rose bush that was starting to bud. In colour, the striking pink and deep green of the rose set against a stunningly clear and deep blue sky was remarkable to look at, both in real life and as an image. In black & white, it offers its own beautiful simplicity with the morning dew glistening in the bright and warm sunshine. A universal symbol of love, gently pointing up to the heavens. I shared this moment silently in my heart with my Grandmother, forever immortalising it in one of my favourite photographs I've taken.
