PETER BARRIEN, Once we lived, now we stand (PLACES 2023)

When I saw these sentinels standing starkly in the Fleurieu foothills, I felt a strong sense of loss for what once was, and a fear for what may come. I had to capture them. This image speaks to me about the impact of European settlement on our land, and future impact on our local environment as the climate changes and bushfires become more destructive. But they also remind me of our overarching responsibility to our children as time flows beyond our horizon.
