Jonathan Gu, Out of the Shadows (ANIMALS 2023)

A short-beaked echidna forages for insects inside a rotting log, shrouded by darkness and lit only by the faintest of indirect evening light trickling through the canopy. As it glanced at me, I was taken aback by the majestic character of its quills, and how they pierced through the shadows.
