Kate Flowers, Portrait with a Kookaburra (PEOPLE 2023)

We have a Kookaburra who frequently comes to visit and sits on the balcony. My daughter has named it 'Kookie' and I wanted to take a portrait of the two of them together. It is a composited image as I took the photo of Kookie and then combined it with an image of my daughter. I love how she holds him so carefully in her hands, recognising the precious gift that is found in the natural world.
