Shopping Squares explores privatisation of the public space. Escalators and shop fronts acquire an alienating aesthetic that points to a dystopian aspect of society, in which the utopian ideal of modern city living has upset social cohesion. The image is printed on aluminium, referencing the building materials of the architecture. The details, reflections and leading lines trap the viewer’s gaze in the maze of the privatised public space.
