Katelyn Slyer, The eagle has landed (ANIMALS 2023)

Documenting the unfortunate death of a White bellied Sea eagle hit on the highway by a car on the South Coast, NSW. I have watched this eagle and it's partner fly over our farm for many years. Nesting in the big pines with their babies. One day we witnessed it being hit by a car. We trudged along the highway to rescue him, but when we got closer we were saddened to see he had died. I lugged the mighty bird, who weighed a tonne, all the way home. Although it was too late to save him, he was sent off to Taronga zoo for studying and they were able to use his feathers for 'imping' so other birds are able to fly. It was nice to know his death was not in total vain. Every now and then I see his other half flying solo and it breaks my heart.
