At first glance, this image has the traits of an old film strip with a story printed along its length. But after a moment the reality of the Tak Nga Court public housing estate becomes clear, and with it, an incredible sense of perspective. This image captures more than just the stark geometry of Hong Kong apartment blocks—it reveals a mosaic of human existence. Each unit seemingly identical, shows the utilitarian nature of a place where space is rare and height is the only direction for buildings to go. But within the tight array of windows and balconies, you can glimpse small yet profound personal touches of a world rich with choice and individuality – a lone bicycle, fluttering laundry, and potted plants. Each element tells a silent story of life within confined spaces, painting a poignant picture of the search for individuality in the towering closeness of urban living.
