Joel Leske, Veins (PLACES 2022)
My entires to this competition are my first attempts at presenting work in mono. I have learnt a great deal and have enjoyed experimenting with this technique. By far the most enjoyable part of this process has been realising that without colour, your imagination can take you to see what it wants, rather than what the image is. When I look at this image, I see soft fabric. Then my eyes are drawn to the veins and I see corals. Or fungus. However in reality, this is a macro image of rose petals in full bloom. By converting this image to mono, the details within the petals become much more vibrant and it is a beautiful reminder of the beauty in our macro world.
